What words can't reach, horses often can.

Evidence-based counseling paired with the unique presence of horses — exploring trust, boundaries, emotional regulation, and connection, with no pressure to perform.

As prey animals, horses are remarkably attuned to human emotion. They don't respond to what you say — they respond to what you're actually carrying, often reflecting it back before you've found the words for it yourself.

Equine therapy uses that presence as part of the clinical work. There's no performance to get right and no test to pass. A horse's calm, nonjudgmental attention creates space for awareness and meaningful change — the kind that's sometimes hard to reach sitting across a desk.

It's still real, licensed therapy — the horse isn't the therapist, the setting is — guided by a counselor trained to help you make sense of what surfaces.

How it works

Presence, not performance.

01
You spend time with the horse, on the ground

No riding required. Sessions typically involve ground-based interaction — leading, grooming, or simply being present alongside the horse.

02
The horse responds honestly

Horses can't be talked into feeling safe with you — they respond to your actual state, not the version you're presenting to the world.

03
Your therapist helps you notice what's happening

What comes up in that interaction — hesitation, control, trust, calm — becomes the material for real clinical conversation and insight.

Why it reaches what talk can't

A mirror that doesn't judge.

Horses don't care about your job title, your explanation, or the story you tell yourself about why you're fine. They respond to your energy, your body language, your actual nervous system state — which makes them an unusually honest mirror.

Their calm, nonjudgmental presence creates space for awareness and meaningful change, with no pressure to perform.

What it's used for

Trust, boundaries, and connection.

Trust & boundaries
Emotional regulation
Anxiety & stress
Relating to others
Feeling stuck in talk therapy

Good questions

About equine therapy.

What is equine therapy?

Equine therapy is evidence-based counseling paired with the presence of horses. As prey animals, horses are remarkably attuned to human emotion and often reflect what words cannot — creating space for awareness, trust-building, and emotional regulation, without pressure to perform.

Do I need horse experience or riding skills?

No. Sessions are typically ground-based — no riding required, and no prior experience with horses needed. This isn't about skill; it's about presence.

Is it still real therapy?

Yes. It's evidence-based, clinical counseling led by a licensed therapist. The horse isn't the therapist — the horse's presence is part of the setting the therapist uses to help you access and process what's real.

Is equine therapy available right now?

Not yet — it's coming soon, led by Erika. Reach out if you'd like to be notified when it opens, or if you have questions in the meantime.

Who is equine therapy a good fit for?

People working on trust, boundaries, emotional regulation, or connection — especially those who find traditional talk therapy hard to sink into, including teens and young adults.

Do you offer this near me or online?
