Daniel Bashta CIT, Counseling for Creatives, Leaders & People Who Feel Stuck

You’ve built a life. But does it still feel like yours?

You can be successful, creative, driven, respected, and deeply capable—and still find yourself wondering:

Why am I exhausted? Why do I keep repeating the same patterns? And who am I when I’m not producing, achieving, performing, or taking care of everyone else?

Daniel Bashta is a Counselor in Training at The Pursuit Counseling who works with creatives, entrepreneurs, leaders, and individuals navigating burnout, anxiety, perfectionism, addiction and recovery, identity, relationships, spirituality, and major life transitions.

His work centers around what he calls the art of human flourishing—helping people develop a fuller, more honest story about who they are and how they want to live.

Sometimes the story that got you here can’t take you where you want to go.

High-functioning crative people often become very good at functioning.

You learn how to produce.

How to perform.

How to solve problems.

How to take care of people.

How to keep moving.

And sometimes, without realizing it, your identity becomes attached to what you accomplish, what other people think of you, or how well you can hold everything together.

Eventually, something stops working.

Maybe success doesn’t feel as satisfying as it used to.

Maybe your creativity feels stuck.

Maybe anxiety follows you even when life looks good from the outside.

Maybe your marriage or relationships have become disconnected.

Maybe perfectionism has become exhausting.

Maybe substances, behaviors, work, or achievement became ways of escaping what you didn’t know how to feel.

Or maybe you’ve simply reached a point where you’re asking:

“Is this really how I want to keep living?”

Counseling can create space to explore that question without immediately trying to fix it.

Daniel may be a good fit for people navigating:

  • Anxiety and chronic overthinking
  • Perfectionism and performance pressure
  • Burnout
  • Addiction and recovery
  • Creative blocks and “stuckness”
  • Identity and self-worth
  • Major life transitions
  • Marriage and relationship struggles
  • Spiritual questions and faith transitions
  • Meaning and purpose
  • The intersection of creativity, career, and identity
  • The pressure of being a high-functioning creative leader, entrepreneur, or creative

Daniel doesn’t just understand high-performing creative spaces. He has lived in them.

Before entering the counseling profession, Daniel spent his adult life as a songwriter, recording artist, producer, pastor, nonprofit leader, creative director, and entrepreneur.

He is a Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum, Gospel Music Award-winning singer-songwriter whose creative work has reached millions of people around the world. His music has topped Billboard charts, been heard in stadiums and films, and one of his songs, God’s Not Dead, became the catalyst for a five-film franchise.

But achievement is only part of Daniel’s story.

Growing up traveling the world in environments where spirituality, service, creativity, and productivity were deeply valued gave Daniel an enormous sense of purpose and drive.

It also contributed to complicated relationships with achievement, approval, identity, and perfectionism.

As an adult, Daniel experienced seasons of burnout, addiction, and ultimately recovery.

Therapy, community, spiritual practices, and the 12 Steps became significant parts of his own journey toward becoming more comfortable in his own skin and learning to reauthor the story he was living.

That experience eventually helped lead him toward pursuing a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling at Asbury Theological Seminary.

Daniel understands something many high-functioning people eventually discover:

You can accomplish extraordinary things and still need a place where you don’t have to perform.

That is the kind of counseling space he wants to create.

Human.

Authentic.

Curious.

Collaborative.

And safe enough to tell the truth.

A DIFFERENT WAY OF LOOKING AT YOUR STORY

You are not the problem. The problem is the problem.

Daniel has been particularly influenced by Narrative Therapy and the belief that the stories we tell about ourselves have tremendous power.

Over time, we can begin living inside narrow descriptions of ourselves:

I’m an addict.

I’m a failure.

I have to succeed.

I’m only valuable when I’m productive.

I always screw things up.

I’m responsible for keeping everyone happy.

If I slow down, everything will fall apart.

But those descriptions rarely contain the whole story.

Narrative work creates space to become curious about where those beliefs came from, separate your identity from the problems you’re experiencing, and rediscover parts of yourself that may have gotten lost along the way.

Daniel also draws from existential and person-centered approaches, exploring deeper questions around meaning, purpose, suffering, creativity, spirituality, relationships, acceptance, resilience, and what it means to build a flourishing life.

Counseling isn’t about someone sitting across from you and telling you how to fix yourself.

It’s a relationship where you can slow down long enough to become curious about your life.

What do we do from here?

Insight matters.

But eventually, insight has to become movement.

Counseling with Daniel is an opportunity to begin examining the patterns shaping your life and experimenting with different ways of responding to them.

That might mean learning to recognize anxiety before it takes over.

Separating your worth from your productivity.

Developing healthier relationships with creativity and ambition.

Building a recovery-oriented life.

Having conversations you’ve been avoiding.

Understanding the stories driving perfectionism.

Exploring questions about faith or spirituality.

Learning how to tolerate uncertainty.

Reconnecting with your spouse.

Rediscovering creativity without needing it to prove something about you.

Or simply figuring out who you want to become next.

The goal isn’t to create a perfect life.

It’s to help you participate more fully in the one you already have.

Counseling for Creatives

When your work comes from you, it can be difficult to separate what you create from who you are.

Musicians. Filmmakers. Writers. Artists. Designers. Producers. Entrepreneurs. Creative directors.

Creative careers carry unique emotional challenges.

Your ideas can feel deeply personal.

Rejection can feel like a rejection of you.

Success creates expectations.

Comparison is everywhere.

And something you once loved can slowly become something you have to produce.

Daniel understands that world firsthand.

Counseling can become one of the few places where you don’t have to create anything.

You can simply be a person.

Counseling for Addiction & Recovery

Getting sober and building a life in recovery aren’t always the same thing.

Daniel brings personal familiarity with recovery and the 12 Steps into his interest in counseling people affected by addiction.

Recovery can eventually raise questions that go far beyond stopping a behavior:

Who am I without this?

What was I trying not to feel?

How do I repair relationships?

How do I deal with shame?

What does a meaningful life look like now?

Counseling can complement recovery communities and other supports by creating space to explore the deeper emotional, relational, spiritual, and identity questions that often emerge along the way.
